The Fossil Café is located in Portugal Cove South on Route 10 of the Avalon Peninsula, Newfoundland. This route is also known as The Irish Loop. The Irish Loop is a tribute to the rich Irish heritage of the numerous communities and their inhabitants found along this scenic route.
Enjoy a leisurely lunch in our comfortable café or on one of our two decks, while admiring the beautiful scenery of barrens and ocean. These surroundings are a hunter’s paradise providing moose, rabbit, duck and ptarmigan hunting as well as trout and salmon angling and berry picking. All of which are enjoyed by locals and visitors alike.
Portugal Cove South is the gateway to Mistaken Point, a designated UNESCO World Heritage site. This point of land is one of the world’s most significant fossil sites, containing fossils of the oldest, most complex life-forms found anywhere in the world.
A short drive from Mistaken Point brings you to Cape Race, a National Historic Site. It is here that the first SOS distress signals were received from the ill fated luxury liner, the Titanic.
Our Cafe is almost ready but our convenience store is open.
Drop by and grab a cup of coffee and a muffin or sandwich while taking in the sights and surroundings of our beautiful scenery
